A swirl of interlocking planes in ochre, slate blue, and deep green, with sharp black shadows and a flash of coral pink cutting through the composition. Maurer, an American modernist who worked in Paris alongside the European avant-garde, pushed toward pure abstraction late in his career — this piece dissolves any recognizable subject into rhythmic, faceted shapes, closer to music than to a scene. It's a striking, early example of American abstract painting from just after the first wave of Cubism.
Its bold geometry and warm-cool contrast make it a strong choice for a modern living room, office, or gallery wall, and it pairs well with mid-century or contemporary furnishings.
