A muscular white stallion rears one hoof mid-stride against a dramatic, storm-lit sky, its mane and tail whipped by the wind. James Ward, an English Romantic painter celebrated for his equestrian and animal subjects, was commissioned to lithograph fourteen of the era's most famous horses; Adonis stands out for its theatrical sky and the sheer energy in the animal's pose. The fine cross-hatching throughout gives it real texture and depth despite being pure black and white.
Its dramatic, monochrome palette makes it a versatile statement piece — equally at home in a study, library, or entryway — and its equestrian subject has broad, classic appeal for horse lovers and traditional interiors alike.
Reproduced from the original lithograph. Available as an unframed print, framed print, floating canvas, or museum canvas in a range of frame finishes.
