A sweeping northern Swedish river valley in autumn color, painted in bold, undulating bands of terracotta, olive, and blue. Osslund, celebrated as the painter of Norrland's wild landscapes, worked in a distinctive synthetist style he absorbed briefly in Gauguin's Paris studio — flattened, rhythmic color planes rather than close realism, built up on greaseproof paper in the field before being transferred to a permanent support. The Ångerman River, near his childhood home, was one of his most repeated and beloved subjects.

The warm terracotta and olive palette, softened with blue-grey shadow, brings an earthy, painterly energy well suited to a study, living room, or reading nook, and its horizontal sweep suits a mantel or long wall.

Reproduced from the original oil on paper. Available as an unframed print, framed print, floating canvas, or museum canvas in a range of frame finishes.
